(1) from the e. Aleutians (Unalaska Is.) locally e. to the Yakutat Peninsula and Cape Peirce, w. Gulf of Alaska, Bristol Bay and the Alexander Archipelago, w. Canada and Nunivak Is. Winters in breeding range and along coast of British Columbia (Vancouver Is.).
(2) Ex. sw. British Columbia (Vancouver Is. and Strait of Georgia) s. to se. Oregon (Columbia River Valley), sw. Arizona, lower Colorado River Valley, s. New Mexico and Mexico (Baja and the Gulf of California s. to Guerrero) and the Revillagigedo Is. Breeds locally e. to w. Nevada (Pyramid Lake) and s. to s. Sonora.
(3) Canada (n. Alberta e. through c. Saskatchewan, Manitoba (Lake Winnipeg) and locally se. James Bay to the Gulf of St. Lawrence and Newfoundland) in the United States s. to Cape Cod and the Chesapeake Bay and w. to Nebraska and Utah.
Winters along coast of Gulf of Mexico to n. Mexico and Florida.
(4) Coastal North Carolina to w. Florida and West Indies (n. Bahamas on Great Inagua s. to Cat Is., Cuba, Isle of Pines). Formerly in coastal Texas and Man-of-War Key off Belize.
(5) Resident on San Salvador (Watling Is.), e. Bahamas.
Winters in e. United States from New York s. to Florida, Gulf of Mexico coast, Mississippi Valley n. to s. Illinois and Rio Grande valley to s. New Mexico, West Indies, Mexico (Yucatan Peninsula), Belize and on the w. coast from the Aleutians to s. Mexico.
